We were asked,
I thought the Judeo-Christian god had an actual, proper name, Yaweh, Jehova……aren’t those two of his names? When Jesus Christ is mentioned he is usually referred to by his name….why isn’t the same true of the god. ... Call the god by his name and we’ll know which god is being spoken of.
The funny thing is, nobody was confused. :- ) People know Who they’re referring to when they say, “God Bless America.” It’s a multicultural agenda that feigns confusion for reasons other than grammatical clarity. Christians referred to Jehovah as (Greek) ho Theos, “God.” Jesus, and Paul, and the other New Testament writers referred to God consistently by that term. So, as a Christian, I refer to Tipler's Singularity as "God" for the very good reason that Jesus did. Because multiculturalists *dislike* the concept of a singular Father God, they argue against Him insiduously. Why not simply be overt in the assault? Why pick around the edges like that, and come off as small-minded? :- ) Six people standing around a party discussing God, and somebody comes up and sniffs, “Which God do you mean?” Does she draw nods of appreciation for her insight, or does she draw rolled eyes for her condescending assumption that she has educated her friends? Men and women who are not multicultural are not so because they’ve never heard the name Siddhartha. As with the above, I often get the distinct impression that my multicultural friends think that they are surprising me by mentioning that other religions exist. One does not establish high intellectual ground by quoting the five-finger elements of the discussion. .
When I want to speak of the god I worship, I don’t refer to him as “God,” I usually refer to him by one of his many names, I prefer Be-Elzebub.
Assuming that this writer doesn't actually murder babies and bury them under houses for good luck, as Baal worshippers did, I assume this supercilious little taunt carries the idea of, "You can worship evil gods, you know. It's possible. How badly did I just shock you?" The level of intelligence assumed is breathtaking. :- ) It's fun to debate those who regard the contest as a mismatch in their favor. ................... For those not participating in the mini-debate, let me respond to Betty with this simple question: have you ever MET an American who was not aware that non-Christian religion is practiced in the West? Do you KNOW any specific American adults, by name, who are unaware that many people believe things very different than they do? Do you even know anybody who does not know what Wicca is? Why, then, a triumphant announcement that shock-jock anti-Christianity is possible? In what way does this transfer ideas from one mind to another? This is America in the 21st century. Nobody is shocked by anything any more. You'll have to do Better than that. :- ) -Jeff
